Arts Talk – Painting with Van Gogh

	You might think that Van Gogh, the painter of the well-known work called Sun Flower, could only paint with the opaque color kind of style. But, actually, Van Gogh had created many of his works with water color like this landscape painting. Today I would like to ask Van Gogh and all of you to join me in water color painting. When I say Van Gogh, I mean this Van Gogh water color Pocket Box. Many times I got a question from my students asking what they should bring when starting water color painting. I always suggest using this small pocket of water color as it is very easy to use with assorted colors to pick from and the price is very reasonable. Then you just need paper not bigger than A4 size and you are ready to go.
	The next question is then always…..What should I paint? Today I’m at a resort near the beach in Phuket, so what we are going to paint today is the landscape as the nature is free. You can make a mistake but the work still turns out natural without too much pressure. Let’s begin
	1st Step – Let’s start with the sky part. Use the color Ultramarine Blue and paint it on the paper.
	2nd Step – You might be wondering how this is going to turn into the sky.
	3rd Step – Add Lemon Yellow color to the wet blue paint. These colors will mix together. We will leave some area for clouds. Then sip a coffee and wait for the paint to dry.
	4th Step – When the color is dry, we will continue with the rock part by mixing the brown and painting it like this.
	5th Step - Then the shape starts to form up.
	6th Step – Now we will paint the sand using Lemon Yellow color and painting it lightly around the background and waiting for it to dry.
	7th Step – Dip dry brush in brown color and paint it on the yellow background. This will create the look of rock among the beach.
	8th Step - Then paint the closer rock by using the mixed colors of brown, red, black and brown.
	9th Step – The final step is to sign your name on the work. You might feel that the colors become lighter when dry. This is normal, but you should pay attention to this process as next time you will know how light or colorful you want the color to be before it dries.
	A little Tip Another important tool for water color painting is coffee and Van Gogh water color Pocket Box. Very easy, isn’t it? Try painting at home, it might not look like what you want it to be at first because you still do not get used to the color, paper, brush and water.
